Flood: APGA assembly candidate draws govt, multinationals attention to plight of Okoroma people

Nembe—Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Nembe Constituency 1 seat in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Barr Oteigbanyo George-Braah has drawn the attention of the Bayelsa State Government and multinational companies operating in the area to the devastating flood in Okoroma-Tereke.

He also drew their attention to the negative effects of the flood on other parts of Nembe Local Government Area in the state.

The House of Assembly hopeful who is popularly known as Okoroma First Son made the call while in Okoroma Clan to sympathize with victims of the flood.

Mangrovepen.ng gathered that George-Braah visited, Ibo, Eminama, Dorgu-Ewoama, Akakumama, Ologoama, Ewokiri, Basuo Tereke, Tengi Tereke, Ekperiama and Oguama communities in his initial assessment tour.

He told newsmen that contrary to some reports, “some of these communities are still totally submerged by the flood, while others partly submerged” as of the time he visited.

He said although he is also a flood victim both in Yenagoa and his Oguama Community residence, he heard the cry of the Okoroma people as it came in a mixture of distress, hardship, pains and agony.

George-Braah noted that even though nothing is big enough to comfort them, the widow’s mite that comes from a genuine heart will go a long way in giving them the hope and assurance that he is a leader that feels the pulse of his people.

He thanked Governor Douye Diri and other donors for their far-reaching support to flood victims in the state as well as the leader of the Otita Transformation Movement, Prince Gabriel Jonah, who apart from responding to distress calls from individuals, in cash and kind, is still quietly extending his benevolence to some communities.

George-Braah equally thanked everyone that has assisted the people in one way or the other and called on the federal government to begin a visible action towards forestalling future occurrences.
