Nembe Se Congress lauds Diri for proposed road project, urges FG, IOCs to partner with Bayelsa govt

Yenagoa—A socio-cultural group, the Nembe Se Congress has thanked Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State for his decision to execute the Nembe-Brass road project.

It will be recalled that the State Executive Council on the 5th of April, 2022 awarded the contract for the construction of the Nembe/Brass road worth N54billion.

The amount covers the construction of phase one of the project covering a distance of 21 kilometers with 10 bridges.

The group made this known in a communique signed by Prof. Monday I. Godwin-Egein, President, Emeritus Prof. E. J Alagoa, OON, Pioneer President/Patron, Prof (Engr) Y. O. Beredugo, OFR, Pioneer Vice President/Patron, Chief (Sir) Howells Waribugo Aburuku, Vice President, High Chief Sam Inikio Sele-Dede, Chairman, Okpoama Kingdom Council of Chiefs and Prof. Kingsley Danekete Alagoa, Ex Officio.

Others are, Barr. Iniruo Wills, Legal Adviser, Rev (Barr) Godfrey Otiotio, Publicity Secretary, Chief (Sir) Bio-Bogomo Gbeyasa, Chief (Dr) Ebiegberi Domo-Spiff Jonathan and Barr. Allen Hope Jonah, General Secretary.

They applauded Diri for approving the road contract stating that the move “is a cheering news and worthy of Congress commendation.”

The group hinted that the road cuts across communities that play host to government oil and gas critical assets of high strategic national economic interests that will enhance the government’s efforts to effectively enforce coordinated surveillance and security in the Niger Delta region where major oil and gas national critical assets are situated.

The group however urged the federal government to make adequate budgetary provision and partner with the state government to expeditiously complete the road within record time.

“Congress equally calls on the International Oil Companies (I0Cs) and other key stakeholders to partner with the Government of Bayelsa State to bring this strategic road project to fruition within record time,” the statement reads in part.

The group commended the state government’s choice of Setraco Nigeria Ltd as the contractor and urged it to maintain close supervision to ensure strict compliance.

They equally assured the government to embark on aggressive advocacy campaigns to ensure the project is completed.
