Port Harcourt—Men of the Nigerian Police Force on Wednesday fired shots to disperse members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) protesting at the party secretariat in Port Harcourt during its screening exercise, Nigeria Info reports.

Scores of APC members loyal to former Senator Magnus Abe had marched to the party Secretariat alleging hijack of State Assembly aspirants screening and ward/state delegate selection.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions like, ‘APC Rivers, where are our forms’, ‘2018 Repeats Itself Again in Rivers, No Lesson Learnt’, among others.

The aggrieved party members said they arrived at the secretariat around 6:00 am only to meet the gate under lock and key. When some protesters attempted to force open the gates, policemen stationed inside the party secretariat shot into the air.

The shooting led to chaos in the area as many including journalists scampered for safety.
