Group commends Sylva over decision to withdraw from presidential race

…urges Buhari to appoint him as substantive petroleum minister

Abuja—A group, the Niger Delta APC Youth Vanguard, has commended the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva for the decision to withdraw from the Presidential race and focus on the completion of the present administration’s policies in the oil and gas sector.

The group made up of core supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari and ex-agitators from the Niger Delta region described Sylva as “a good listener” for heeding the plea of President Buhari to stay behind and complete the good work he started in the oil and gas sector which is the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy.

In a statement by its President and National Coordinator, General Fiawei Pathfinder the group noted that “in a rare demonstration of solidarity and support, Niger Delta ex-agitators under the auspices of the Niger Delta APC Youth Vanguard have risen in support of the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Dr. Timipre Sylva who recently withdrew from the Presidential race of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.”

They outlined some of Sylva’s landmark achievements including the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill which had become a mirage for so many years before now.

The group listed other achievements to include the re-positioning of the Oil and Gas Sector to get the utmost for the nation, the building of Modular refineries in the region, the maintenance of peace and safety of Oil and Gas infrastructures in the region, the development of human capital of the region, the creation of employment for youths of the region, the rehabilitation of Port-Harcourt refinery Project that is ongoing that will be soon be completed.

The statement also outlined the commencement of the 12b dollars TRAIN 7 Project in the creek of Bonny of the Liquefied Natural Gas, among so many other projects completed within two and half years of his stay at the helm of affairs of the ministry as his achievements.

They described Sylva as a distinguished Nigerian leader whose track record cannot be erased in the nearest future and stated that “we have resolved to stand by this great son of the Niger Delta who has shown uncommon loyalty to his principal President Buhari by opting to stay behind and finish the great work he has started.”

The ex-agitators pledged to mobilize the nine states of the Niger Delta region in support of Sylva at all times without any doubt because of the belief they have in his credible leadership.

Describing Sylva as a great son of the Ijaw Nation, the group maintained that he remains their leader, father, mentor and role model as far as the Niger Delta region is concerned and as a Party leader in the south-south.

The group called on Sylva not to be deterred by the side talks of rumor mongers and naysayers whose stock in trade is to pull down and destroy shining stars of the region.

They beckoned on President Buhari to upgrade Chief Sylva to the position of substantive Minister of Petroleum in the remaining year of his administration.
