Re: kelvin Suoyo Appah; a misfire loyalty challenge

It is not news that, Dr. Kelvin Suoyo Appah a worthy son of Bayelsa State recently resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and appointment in the Governor Douye Diri led Prosperity Administration as Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, a position he held even in the administration of former governor Seriake Dickson.

It is also not news that he decamped almost immediately to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) where he is currently an aspirant contesting for the Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 1 seat in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

Noteworthy is the fact that he has been under the mentorship of Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah who is currently the occupant of that seat.

In reference to the writer’s quote in one paragraph, he said, “you don’t set yourself on fire to keep other people warm”, in this context, how long is Kelvin Suoyo Appah expected to be on fire to keep the likes of Tonye Isenah warm?

I am however glad that the article constantly made reference to Kelvin’s loyalty to the PDP, his immediate boss (Tonye Isenah) and the ‘Miracle Governor’ or how else could he have been appointed?

Have we forgotten so soon how this same Kelvin Suoyo Appah forfeited his ambition for Chairmanship because the powers that be, weren’t comfortable? And I ask, where then lies the place of reward for service/loyalty?

There is a saying I coined that says, “If you don’t reward people for their loyalty, you have no justification to cry over their supposed betrayal.”

Truth is, there comes a time in the life of a man when he will be required to take his destiny into his own hands. More so, in a time when a lot of people will do the unthinkable to remain in government for the crumbs, Suoyo Appah took the bold step to resign his appointment for the greater good of the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency 1.

Many Bayelsans are proud of his bravery. He chose the people over personal comfort and he chose bravery over cowardice. What a Man!

It is pertinent to note at this point that an election goes beyond victory at the polls and the game of politics is in itself dynamic.

Also, gone are the days when supposed ruling party tickets are a hallmark to victory as exemplified in the 2020 Bayelsa guber polls where the ruling party with a sitting governor lost woefully at the polls.

The electorates are wiser to know that at the emergence of victory, they deal directly with an individual and not a political party.

However, in this case, the majority of the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma have queued behind a Bayelsan with an Izon heart.

Bayelsans are waiting to see how the Big Masquerade who had displayed several moves in the past, will be able to dance now that the man behind the scene has taken a bow.

Indeed, it will be an interesting contest and Bayelsans are eager. Win or loose, Kelvin SuoyobAppah (ASK2023) has made a political statement that echoes even in the sleep of his detractors.
